Fuquay-Varina NC New Homes
The Beginning of a Bustling City Near Raleigh NC
As the French Veteran, William Fuquay, of the Revolutionary War, moved his family to “Piney Woods” as he purchased 1,000 acres of Jones Land in 1805. And in 1858, his son Stephen discovered a mineral spring, which became a local attraction for people with physical ailments. “Taking the Waters” lead to an annual East Monday and Fourth of July celebrations. At the same time, with the timber rail production, this paved way for others to visit long term during the spring.
A young soldier named Ballentine, during the “War of Southern Independence” having the pen name of “Varina” married the Fayetteville lady and called her Varina. Then naming both post office and mercantile establishment after her. This is when the two timber rail lines crossed, “Varina Station” was born.
In 1964 Fuquay and Varina joined together as one municipality. Since then, it has become one of the fastest growing towns in all of North Carolina. As it was built to create two vibrant districts for business that is designed to meet the community’s needs. Over the years, significant improvements have been made. The plan to actively develop the town was put into place as the Downtown Center Plan design provided the guidelines and the tools for the downtown business districts. The Museum complex opened as part of the Centennial Celebration back in 2009. As it is important to it’s community to preserve the history, volunteers helped collect memories from citizens to be able to let the museum tell the rich story of Fuquay-Varina. The Town also provides space and museum maintenance. As volunteers give tours to a great number of school children every year, history buffs that come to visit also participate in the tours, not wanting to miss out on “a true gem that is the best kept secret in town.”

The eggs can be exchanged for prizes as over 500 children participate in this popular event, catering to different age groups where onsite signage helps guide parents to the appropriate area. A basket for the goodies is a must to bring! Another successful festival is “Celebrate Fuquay-Varina” which is free. A lot of family fun can happen in true uquay-Varina style! But on a normal Saturday, there are still festivities in downtown Fuquay-Varina, held from 10am to 4pm. As some other cities, we celebrate Independence Day, a day early. Which showcases a group of food sellers, several music acts, rides for children and of course, what’s a 4th of July without a world class fireworks display?
