Hephzibah GA - Quiet But Proud Of Separate Identity
Hephzibah was once known as Brothersville, in honor of the three brothers – James, Augustus and Elisha Anderson, who were the first to build their homes in the area. It started as a mile radius circling the Baptist high school which it was named after. The community is very quiet and most residents are older families. A carriage block marks outside where the travelers are carried down with horse drawn buggies. The home of the minister is facing the Baptist school, which is known to directly send its graduates to the junior college year and currently is where Hephzibah Elementary is located.
Many people are moving in to the city to work at Savannah River Site, Fort Gordon and Plant Vogtle. From only about 3,800 in the year 2000 to 4,500 in 2008, Hephzibah population has tremendously grown having the city dotted on the southern part with newly developed subdivisions. This is actually larger than it seems since there are more addresses in the city's zip code.
